Nikon P500 Review

Postby [RS]Tefty » Thu Jul 14, 2011 6:40 pm

So, today I got a Nikon P500

I wanted something with a bit more functionality than a compact, but something not as expensive as a full on DSLR

This is a bridge camera, a go between if you will between DSLR and Compacts

Picked it up for £300 from Amazon down from £400 in a sale.

Here some photos of it, taken from my phone...

It looks like, and for all purposes is, a small DSLR and even though it looked quite bulky on the Amazon photos, its not that big..

I am a n00b at photography, but I tried to take some sample photos which are here;

The cat, after rolling around outside and getting shit on her face (taken in good light)

A homeless man I could only just see out of the window at work (taken in a quite poorly lit office, through a dirty window and at maximum zoom (36x))

Some foliage, but with the sun behind it to see if it ruined the photo

Some high up branch, taken about 20x zoom

I am really pleased with the camera, especially the High Speed video mode, that records at 240fps to create some EXCELLENT slow motion stuff, very top gear :)

I will experiment more over the weekend with different modes, as I have only used Auto so far.

4/5 from me!

As for why it does not get 5/5;
Only 100mb internal memory, and no SD card supplied (had to go buy one, £30)
Continuous shooting mode only does 5 at a time

More to follow!

The weather was good this morning (5.30 :shock: ) so decided to goto Rutland water before work and try and get some action/diving shots of the ospreys, It wasn't until about 8.15 when leaving I noticed I had taken 964 pic's :lol: . so I'll be wading thru them tonight.
Hopefully I'll get time for some BF2 :mrgreen:

Class 4 is fine, you can take a fair number of shots before it needs to write to the card with it. Certainly works brilliantly in the D40x. :)

Size, well, I don't want to go too big, means if you lose the card/data on card you lose shit loads.
