Gambia '14 - Next Holiday

Postby [RS]Tefty » Sat Dec 14, 2013 12:02 am

So, I got no big Holiday planned for next summer. No Japan this year :(

I am thinking therefore... I am going to go on an epic drive.

Drive through France, Spain, Portugal, cross into Morocco from Gibraltar and then through the Sahara, Senegal and finally into Gambia.

Thinking of buying a cheap 4x4 here, one that I can make the Journey in, then leave it to some locals and fly home.

Going to try and do it over 10 days, which is a push....
It will mean doing about 8 hours driving a day for the first 8 days
Then a day to relax in Gambia and sell the car
Then fly back on the 10th day

Would anyone like to come along with me?

Been told its best not to try and drive at night once you cross into Africa

So one possibility is to hit France and Spain really hard and drive pretty much none stop so that you get to take it easier once you get into Africa

I've got a feeling that Western Sahara is a bit of a no-go zone?......besides. Its a Muslim country. You'll have to wear a Burka ;)

I'd be right up for that! :)

I could have a word with where I work security at and see about a vehicle http://www.mod-sales.com

only problem with a Landy like that is they are a bag of shite to drive and sooo uncomfortable in the hot weather, I have driven 5 variants of this model and even though they are awesome for rough terrain and drive on forever, you would be better off in a Discovery with aircon (they have the same underbody and running gear) or a Mitsubishi Shogun, both tried and tested vehicles for the sort of driving you will be doing on this trip.
