yeah am underclocking on purpose. had it to 3.8 but when i started using some of my graphic design applications like photoshop and illustrator i started getting BSD and was not sure what was causing it. the overclock ran stable when testing so i need to re tinker with it until its ok. loosing work from a BSD is just not worth it.

Well bit the bullet and splashed out some cash for a new GFX card. Bought one of these.....

Sapphire HD 7970 OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Was it a good choice?

From my understanding the 7970/7990 are the top end cards now and the 7950's are re badged 6970's with new core technology but the same memory pipes and bandwith of the 6970's

nVidia 670GTX beats the 7970 by 11% average in game benchmarkings and is £50cheaper.

But still a nice Gcard :)

GTX 670 m8, just ordered mine coming tuesday as i have fryed my GTX 580 lol OOOOOPS..... £320 from novatech and back to watercooling it and overclocking the bitch when it comes :) should be able to get a respectable 1200 - 1300 mhz out of it with my vga W/C block
http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/comp ... gd5oc.html
the only difference between the 680 and 670 is the 670 has 1 smx core laser cut disabled (twats could have left it and bios disabled it)

happy hunting :)

i have fryed some of the resistors next to the memory chip controller on the 580 so going to try a solder volt mod on it later on to see if i can breath some life into it lol just need £2's worth of resistors from maplins and a new micro tip for my soldering iorn and a steady hand :)
