new pc time!

Postby [RS] Mad Dogg » Tue Jun 25, 2013 6:34 pm

and now the time has come to sort myself with a new pc!

The new one will be kinda new, with a few bit scavenged from the current build.

I am hopelessly out of touch with whats good and whats not, so heres my starting point:

PSU, gfx ( 2 x 5770's) and HDD's I'll scavenge from the current build.

opinions please!

Are you really going to tinker with the CPU to warrant the cooler?

If not, ditch it and get another 8gb of ram with the money and pocket a fiver!

Well unless your going to OC the CPU, why get the water cooler - just use the fan and bag your self the extra performance from double ram

It is a good selection.

You are right to go Ivy Bridge over Haswell. For the money you get a faster cpu with better over clocking ability.

The new gen 4 Intel chips will get you faster performance eventually, when people start writing their programs to take advantage of AVX2 but will it get used in BF4 .. Who knows :P

The watercooling is a waste of time unless you want to build a silent PC or you are looking to heavily overclock the cpu. Doubling the RAM to 16GB would be the way to go from me too.

I chose the water cooler coz..well, it might be nice to have a quiet PC for once! Lol

Someone recommend me a decent heatsink n fan then please! (Do CPU's still ship with a stock fan?)

Stock Heatsinks and Fans are Loud although the Ivybridge ones are quiet even when under quite a bit of load. I you want a water cooler I've heard plenty of good things about these guys (also air coolers are good too gone one in the Kids PC) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productli ... subid=2337
